Belgian tram tendered

24 July 2012 A tender has finally been issued for Belgium’s Liege tram PPP following design approval.

The Wallonia Regional Transport authority has announced the tender to design, build, finance and maintain the 17km Liege tram line which will connect the station multimodal Jemeppe-sur-Meuse to the commercial site "Lower Country" at Herstal, via the TGV station and the Place Saint-Lambert.

The PPP will involve a public structure that will limit the level of annuities, at a cost of €500m.

The contract will cover the initial investment including purchase of vehicles and work, but also maintain the network and trains for 27 years, until 2043.

Stibbe are legal advisors, while PwC are financial advisors and Egis technical advisors. A maximum of four parties will be allowed to bid in the tender.
