Texas mulls $500m in P3s
15 June 2012
The Texas Facilities Commission in the US is scrutinising five potential P3 projects from unsolicited proposals, worth a combined $500m.
Among the proposals is a scheme for a science museum and planetarium, together with new housing. However, the other four projects will remain under wraps until presented to the commission at a public meeting later in the year – provided they are approved. It is envisaged that the projects will receive a public hearing this summer, before being given to lawmakers for approval by the end of 2012.
The programme of potential investment is being fast-tracked thanks to support being provided from P3 experts in Virginia and Canada, local press has reported.
State representative Jim Murphy, chairman of the advisory commission, welcomed the plans to expand the use of P3s in Texas. “There’s billions – perhaps trillions – of dollars looking for investment,” he said.
