Colombia highway bid by December
14 June 2012
The first phase of a $15bn highways PPP scheme will be bid out by the end of this year.
The first section of the Motorways of Prosperity initiative will be bid out by December, as the government seeks to increase the speed of the programme.Initially expected to take 10 years, President Juan Manuel Santos said the scheme could take as little as six years, provided the procurement process is not delayed.
Fernando Andrade, president of the National Infrastructure Agency, told local press that bidding documents are now being prepared.
He also suggested the first phase would be enticing to contractors, thereby bringing in a significant number of bidders.
The Prosperity Highway project is aimed at boosting economic growth in Colombia by connecting production centres with ports and other transport terminals across the country.
