Firms respond on Puerto Rico prison
Firms responded to the request for qualifications after the deadline was extended from 4 May to 7 May. A list of bidders is expected in the coming weeks that will compete to design, build, finance and maintain a youth detention facility – to accommodate 600 young people.
An advisory team was appointed in January comprising CPM (Caribbean Project Management) as technical adviser, Advantage Business Consulting as financial adviser, Pietrantoni and Mendez & Alvarez and Aird & Berlis as legal advisers.
The ‘Nuevo Comienzo’ project (or ‘New Beginnings’ in English) is being procured by the Puerto Rico Public-Private Partnerships Authority along with the Juvenile Institutions Administration and is estimated to provide savings of US$4.1m annually.
