Firms respond on Puerto Rico prison

8 May 2012 The deadline has now closed for firms to qualify for Puerto Rico’s first ever social infrastructure PPP.

Firms responded to the request for qualifications after the deadline was extended from 4 May to 7 May. A list of bidders is expected in the coming weeks that will compete to design, build, finance and maintain a youth detention facility – to accommodate 600 young people.

An advisory team was appointed in January comprising CPM (Caribbean Project Management) as technical adviser, Advantage Business Consulting as financial adviser, Pietrantoni and Mendez & Alvarez and Aird & Berlis as legal advisers.

The ‘Nuevo Comienzo’ project (or ‘New Beginnings’ in English) is being procured by the Puerto Rico Public-Private Partnerships Authority along with the Juvenile Institutions Administration and is estimated to provide savings of US$4.1m annually.
