New Aussie prison to tender
As part of the 2012-13 Victorian Budget, Corrections Minister Andrew McIntosh said the scheme in Ravenhall will relieve the growing pressure on places in Victoria's prison system. A private partner will design, build, maintain and operate the medium-security prison.
"This Budget sets out a clear plan to meet our challenges. We are taking a responsible and necessary approach to rebuild our state and we will not be defined by the challenges we face, but by the collective action we take to address them," he said.
The total capital commitment is $670m, and the scheme will be built on a larger footprint to facilitate expansion in the future.
A tender is expected in the coming months.
