Health PPPs open up in NZ
Following discussions on the rebuilding of the Christchurch hospital after last year’s earthquake, a similar plan is now being looked at for a multi-million dollar new facility in Auckland by the Counties-Manukau District Health Board.
"The government expects all public sector entities to consider the full range of procurement options for major projects to ensure taxpayers are getting the best possible value for money," a spokesman for Minister of Finance Bill English said.
In reference to the Auckland scheme, he added: "A range of possible procurement options, including a potential PPP, remain under consideration."
The government is currently market-testing the viability of the Christchurch Hospital rebuild PPP, which could be valued at up to NZ$650m.
In the past few weeks, New Zealand’s government has reached financial close on its first PPP - the Hobsonville schools scheme - and has signed the contract on its second, the Wiri prison.
