New African PPP unit
23 April 2012
The government of Sierra Leone (GOSL) has established a new PPP unit to spur infrastructure investment in the country.
GOSL's new team is tasked with setting out development objectives for the implementation of PPP projects, "in order to trigger private sector-led growth, give project co-ordination and transaction support". Its core mandates will be to establish commercial joint ventures with the private sector, manage design, build, finance, operate and transfer contracts, procure long-term "mega-projects" and compose trade agreements.
The unit is currently looking to recruit four "exceptional candidates" to staff this newly set-up office in the President's quarters, including the unit's head. Deadline for applying for roles is 30 April 2012. The African Development Bank along with the World Bank Group embarked on the preparation of a Joint Assistance Strategy for Sierra Leone last year to help identify priority projects within the energy, water and sanitation sectors.
