Preferred bidder for Morocco wind farm
23 April 2012
The Moroccan National Electricity Office has selected a winner for its 20-year Taza wind PPP project.
The consortium led by EDF Engeries Nouvelles, in association with Mitsui, won the deal to build a 50-turbine strong wind farm with the capacity of 150MW. EDF Energies created local subsidiary company, EDF EN Maroc, which will design, finance, develop, construct and operate the farm for the production of electricity. Located in northern Morocco, the Taza deal was launched last year and will be followed with an additional project for a sister wind farm with a 850MW capacity.
The pre-qualification process for the second stint is expected to begin shortly as part of the country's plan to develop at least 2GW wind energy and 2GW solar energy programmes by 2020.
