Calls for national Aussie PPP pipeline

21 February 2012 Australia's New South Wales (NSW) state has urged the federal government to plan a national programme for private investment into infrastructure.
NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell briefed representatives of the private sector in a conference this week, calling for the Australian government to embrace a national approach to PPPs.

Attendees of the meeting included the Business Council of Australia and various banking representatives. Delegates heard O'Farrell's vision to "maximise private sector involvement in major infrastructure projects" and his aim to get the government to redistribute additional tax revenue received as a result of state-funded projects.

Following the announcement, former NSW Premier Nick Greiner said: "If you consider Sydney, there are at least three motorway projects that need to be funded, financed and delivered. And then there are all the new hospitals, schools, jails and utility infrastructure. And that story is replicated across the country."
