One of two massive waste projects in Norwich could be abandoned after the credit crunch sent costs spiralling by more than 50%.

Council officials have recommended that ‘Contract A’, a waste PPP worth around £500m, be scrapped because it is too expensive. Norfolk Council’s waste board said It would not be in taxpayers' interests "to continue with such an expensive project".
